Has anyone here actually benefited from following mainstream travel advice?
I've noticed a lot of posts (and blog recommendations) quoting sources like the Washington Post travel editor or big-name travel sites. But after years as a digital nomad, honestly, most of the "top 10 cities" and "must-visit" lists seem like they’re aimed at short-term tourists or business travelers, not people who live and work on the road long-term.
Do these mainstream articles ever truly reflect the priorities of digital nomads-affordability, WiFi quality, coworking spaces, visa situations, longer-term rentals, IRL community? Or are they just repeating the usual destinations everyone already knows, with maybe a slight remote work angle?
Is there any point in paying attention to what the major outlets say about "digital nomad hotspots," or should we ignore them and trust our own network and experiences? Has anyone here actually found a hidden gem thanks to a big publication's advice?
